This half term, our Year 1 pupils have been studying the Victorians as part of their History studies. A couple of weeks ago, Year 1 went back in time to this era when they visited Macclesfield Museum.
They spent the day in the shoes (some- literally) of a Victorian child; experiencing a lesson with Ma'am, learning how to write on a slate tablet and even attempt to use a ‘ink dip pen.'
The children spent time with Mrs Brown, learning how victorian children helped in theirs homes, from fetching water from the pump to all the different cleaning and washing jobs which had to carried out. Some of the children were able to try on the types of clothes rich and poor children wore during that time.
During the afternoon, the children had a fantastic time carefully handling some victorian artefacts and exploring what they were used for by the Victorian families and factory workers. The class all benefited from a practical and visual approach to learning about life as a Victorian, all enhancing their own learning.
