Year 1 Hit the Ground Running in their First Week of Key Stage 1

Year 1 have made a fantastic start to Key Stage 1, completing their first week with enthusiasm, determination and an impressive approach to learning. From the moment they arrived in the classroom, the children have demonstrated #theforestway of doing things....
We had our first house meetings for the new school year, and we explored the ‘Ripple Effect’ of caring as part of our Flourish Character Education programme and this half-term’s focus on Caring.
It was lovely to have the Kindergarten children on board too and be part of the house meetings. By learning to care for others from such a young age, we hope our children will grow into kind people.
We talked about how one small act of kindness or care can create a ripple effect, spreading from one person to another and encouraging others to care too. Just like a ripple in water grows outwards, our actions can have an impact far beyond the moment itself. 💙
Our House Meetings were split between Upper School and Lower School, allowing us to explore the idea in an age-appropriate way.
👫 Upper School children had some fantastic discussions about how they might respond if a new child joined their class and found themselves alone at playtime. They considered how they could notice what was happening, include someone and help them feel that they belonged.
🔎 Lower School became ‘Caring Detectives’! They explored what a caring detective might notice and how we can recognise when someone needs help, even when they don’t actually say, “Help me.” We thought about looking carefully, listening and noticing how someone might be feeling.
It was wonderful to see children from the different year groups coming up with thoughtful ideas together.

Let’s Talk about ‘Caring’❤️

🌟 A Day in Nursery! 🌟
There is never a dull moment for our youngest Foresters! 🌳
Our day began with singing, dancing and counting to 20. The perfect way to wake up, get moving and start the day with energy! 🎶💃
During continuous play, the children developed their fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving and concentration through threading wool and keys, building with LEGO and completing jigsaws.
Miss Saez then explored mark making, pencil grip and pencil control, with monster-themed colouring helping us talk about emotions and feelings.
After snack, we headed off on a tour of the school! We met key people such as Chef Simon who makes our school lunch, explored the Music Room and Lower School, visited the trophy cabinet to see what we can aspire to, played in the lower school playground learning to balance on the tyres, and, of course, said hello to the goats in the Outdoor Learning Classroom.
We were also delighted to spend time with our wonderful Year 6 buddies, who are fantastic role models and show what it means to be a true Forester.
Back in Nursery, there was time for bikes, slides, building and imaginative play before finishing our busy morning with lunch in the school hall, alongside the other Early Years children.
