Welcoming Back Mrs Eley

Welcoming Back Mrs Eley

The start of the Spring term not only saw the beginning of a new year (2025) but we also very happily welcomed back Mrs Eley.

Mrs Eley is a huge part of Forest, and is our longest-serving staff member, having been with us since 1979. With a teaching career spanning nearly 50 years, she first began teaching in 1975 at a boys’ boarding school before joining Forest. Her passion for education and love for children continues to keep her in the classroom, beyond the usual retirement age.

Everyone was delighted to welcome Mrs Eley back after her time away due to illness.

We caught up with Mrs Eley for a quick Q&A:

Q: What did you miss most while on sick leave?

A: Being around the children. My welcome back was incredibly special—I received so many heartwarming hugs, and I’m still getting them! When I walk through the playground, children run over to give me a hug.

Q: Was there anything that particularly touched you during your time off?

A: The amount of kindness shown was overwhelming. I received countless emails and cards from children, parents, and staff wishing me well. One pupil even wrote his own prayer, recorded himself reading it, and emailed it to me while I was in the hospital. That truly touched my heart.

Q: How did you feel on your first day back?

A: A little apprehensive, just like the children returning after the holidays! But I was also eager to get back to the classroom and start teaching again.

Q: What inspired you to become a teacher?

A: I don’t have children of my own, but I love being around them. Teaching allows me to spend time with children, support them, and be a part of their learning journey. Their happy and positive personalities are infectious.

Q: What’s your favourite thing about being a teacher?

A: I loved my own school days, and I want to ensure the children I teach have the same wonderful experience. Creating happy memories and making learning fun is my goal, which is more challenging in today’s world where children are captured by video games, but it’s certainly very possible.

Q: What do you love most about teaching at Forest?

A: The children are an absolute joy—they are so happy and full of energy. I also love working with the staff, who are not just colleagues but friends.

Q: Do you have a fond memory of Forest?

A: Teaching Mr. Booth when he was just seven years old! He was very lively but also a hard worker.

We are so happy to have Mrs. Eley back and look forward to many more wonderful moments with her at Forest.
