Poetry Competition – Centenary Celebration

Poetry Competition – Centenary Celebration

As part of our Centenary Celebrations, all children from Nursery to Year 6 took part in a special Poetry Competition. Over the February half-term all children were tasked with writing a poem, in collaboration with their families . This was a wonderful opportunity for families to bond, share creativity, and celebrate school life together. The children could choose any style of poetry—rhyming or non-rhyming, acrostics, verses, or even poems with a chorus.

The staff were amazed by the high standard of the poems and deeply moved by the heartfelt reasons why Forest holds a special place in the children’s hearts. Many of the poems were incredibly emotive and beautifully expressed.

Each child had the chance to perform their poem in front of their class, and two were selected from each year group to progress to the final. In the grand final, the finalists confidently and enthusiastically recited their poems to an audience of proud parents,  and two judges: Mrs Sarah Hooper (Television Writer) and Mrs Paula Stokes (Teacher and Children's Author). A huge thank you to both for their time and expertise!

A big congratulations to LM (Kindergarten), VA (Year 2), GB (Year 3), and TA (Year 6), who were the winners in their categories.

A special mention to all our finalists  Nursery: ME, Kindergarten: R BH, Reception: ML & LG, Year 1: SM & AH, Year 2: TD
Year 3: DA, Year 4: GE & RT, Year 5: LE & IM and Year 6: RG

A huge well done to all the children who took part—we are incredibly proud of your creativity and your obvious passion for poetry.
