Once Upon a Smile Charity

Once Upon a Smile Charity

We are delighted to have raised more than £1,000 for a local charity which provides support to families that have suffered the loss of a loved one.

Emmerdale actor and co-founder of the ‘Once Upon A Smile’ charity, Danny Miller, and Charity Manager, Daniel Jillings, visited the School last week to collect a cheque for £1,219.40.

Around 200 children from Nursery to Year 6 took part in ‘The Smile Mile Challenge’ in May, collecting sponsorship money from family and friends.

The event was organised by our P.E. teacher, Mrs Forster, who said: “As well as promoting a healthy lifestyle, this event also helped raise vital funds for a very worthwhile cause.”  She added: “It was also great fun!”

The Smile Mile Challenge took place during usual PE lessons in the school grounds, and the children were able to run, walk or even skip their age group’s chosen distance – either one, two or three miles.

Headmaster, Rick Hyde, said: “As a school community, we have always been very proud of the money we raise for charity and for people less fortunate than ourselves.  These events take time, effort and commitment to organise but demonstrate perfectly the caring and giving nature of both our children and their families.”

Well done to everyone involved!
