Both Kindergarten and Year 5 had an exciting and educational day at Jodrell Bank Observatory, home to the iconic Lovell Telescope. The trip was filled with opportunities to learn about space and astronomy, providing valuable insights for all students.
Kindergarten students enjoyed a magical storytime session in the planetarium, where they discovered the wonders of daytime and nighttime, as well as learning about planets and moons. Afterward, they explored the beautiful gardens and enjoyed some fun playtime on the large playground.
Year 5 students expanded their knowledge of space through a series of engaging workshops. They explored fascinating topics such as the Earth, sun, and moon, building on their classroom studies with hands-on activities and discussions on physics concepts.
Beyond the educational aspect, the trip also strengthened the bond between Kindergarten and Year 5 students as part of the school’s Reading Buddy program. This initiative not only helps older students develop leadership and social skills, but also fosters friendships across year groups. The younger children benefit from having older buddies to guide and support them, whether it’s with their reading, during playtime, or simply making new friends.
The staff were incredibly proud of how well all the students represented the school during the trip, showcasing their exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm throughout the day.
