One of the many celebrations for our 100th year involved planting a time capsule. The entire school, along with parents and grandparents, gathered in the garden by the main house for a special moment to honour our school's history with the creation of a time capsule. The time capsule was presented by our head girl, SM, and head boy, KS, alongside two honoured alumni guests: Mrs. Cheryl Kershaw, a former pupil from the class of 1955, and Mr. Gary Darby, Head Boy from the class of 1957.
The time capsule contains a variety of meaningful items and reflects an important aspect of life at Forest in this centenary year. Pupils worked together to decide on something that represents their experiences and memories of Forest.
The time capsule included House badges, the Centenary pin badge, a whole-school photo from the first day of our 100th year, one of Maggie’s dog biscuits, and some imaginative drawings by students predicting what the school might look like 100 years from now. A plaque marks the spot where the time capsule is buried, with the hope that one day, perhaps in another century, it will be unearthed, offering a snapshot of what life at Forest was like in 2023, making today's Foresters part of history.
This act of ‘planting something to mark a special occasion’ continues a cherished Forest tradition of marking important milestones in the school's history, which began in 2000 with the planting of the Millennium Time Capsule and continued in 2023 with our Jubilee Tree.
This assembly was a truly special occasion, bringing together current and former Foresters, along with families and staff. It was a celebration of Forest as it is today, while also leaving a legacy.
